One of my nieces shared a list of reasons she loves her grandfather, my father. I would like to share them with all of my friends. We can all learn how to live a better life if we but follow his amazing example. Here is her list:
Lessons learned from my grandpa:
~The most incredible and important invention in the last 95 years is electricity
~Stand up for what you believe
~Laugh often
~Hold hands with the ones you love
~The key to a happy marriage is to make the bed together every morning
~Tell your children often how loved and special they are
~Always be prepared to share your talents even if it means carrying a harmonica in your pocket everywhere you go
~Always show love to and play with children
~When fishing with kids, catch the fish for them and give them the rod so they think they caught it
~Things are never more important than people and memories that can be made
~Always carry a penny with you in case a child needs to be amazed by the magic penny trick
~Use kind words, or a poem if needed, to tell others how special they are
~Have an open door policy that all are welcome at your home at any time of the day
~There is no reason to live beyond your means
~Love unconditionally
~Serve with all your heart
~Even when you are hurting share a smile, laugh or song
~Your posterity deserves to feel special on their birthday and needs to get a phone call from you singing the birthday song every year
~Speak often about the wonderful attributes of your spouse and tell everyone how you fell in love and why you them them so much that they have the story memorized but will always know the love you share
~Live a great life so your posterity and those around you will feel blessed they knew you
~Living a wonderful life does not have to include lots of money and worldly possessions just a life full of love
~Endure to the end with a smile even when you miss your spouse of 75 years so much it hurts
~Share your love of the Savior and your testimony however you can with words, stories but especially by the way you live your life
~The secret of life,"don't die"
