What's Wrong With My Eye?
On our way to Denver, Aldine had some weird things going on with her eye, so on Monday we went to the optometrist to have it checked out. It was determined that part of the vitreous fluid had pulled away from the retina. Apparently, that is something that commonly occurs as we get older. There were thousands and thousands of dots and spots before her eyes no matter where she looked. By Thursday night, she was now seeing flashes of light on the upper left side of her vision when she moved her eyes. This was cause for concern, as this can mean that there is a tear in the retina or that it is detaching. We called the optometrist again, first thing in the morning and he had us come right in. Upon close examination he said that there were a couple of small hemorrhages and that could indicate a tear. He said she should be seen by a retina specialist. Great! He wanted to refer her to the group that had previously performed eye surgery on her right eye when we lived in Arvada, but due to the fact that we were out of state, the insurance company required that she be seen in an emergency room first. So, you guessed it, we spent the rest of the day going to the emergency room, then to another optometrist to whom they referred us, and then he referred us to the same retina specialists that the other doctor wanted us to see in the first place. We finally returned home about 6:00 pm. It was determined that there was not a tear. If there had been a tear, it would have required immediate surgery and our stay would have been lengthened by a few days. We decided to head out the next morning to return to Texas so her local doctors could take care of her. After about 3 weeks now, the spots have virtually gone away, but she is still seeing the flashes of light. She has an appointment to see her optometrist on the 5th.

How scary! I'm glad you are doing better, but I hope they can figure out what is still happening. Wow!
